Åbo Akademi University (ÅAU) is an internationally acknowledged research university with an extensive responsibility for providing education in Swedish in Finland. With its international research community and its strong Nordic ties, Åbo Akademi University has an acclaimed and recognized position within research and education both nationally and internationally.

Åbo Akademi University welcomes applications to 17 new, funded positions for doctoral researchers (max. 48 months/position) including 4 within the Finland Fellowship programme for non-EU/EEA doctoral researchers at one of the four faculties within the university. 

The positions are located within one of the main subjects at one of the four faculties of Åbo Akademi University: The Faculty of Arts, Psychology and Theology; The Faculty of Education and Welfare Studies; The Faculty of Science and Engineering or The Faculty of Social Sciences, Business and Economics. The faculty campuses are located in Turku or Vaasa. Doctoral researchers employed by Åbo Akademi University should actively take part in the research and education within the faculty, in Turku or Vaasa, according to where the main subject is located. 

In addition, 3 doctoral researcher positions are open within the research profile Solutions for health. The positions advertised within the research profile belong to the existing doctoral programmes at ÅAU. 

In addition, 4 doctoral researcher positions are open within the fields of early childhood education and pedagogical leadership at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Welfare Studies located in Vaasa.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

An employment as doctoral researcher may start September 1, 2024, or as per agreed.  A doctoral position within the Finland Fellowship programme may start January 1, 2025, at the earliest.

Åbo Akademi University applies the salary system of Finnish universities. Currently, the starting salary for doctoral researchers is approximately 2 580,00 € per month. The salary increases as the candidate makes progress towards a doctoral degree and the finalization of the studies.    

Doctoral researchers will have total working time, which means 1,612 hours per academic year. The employment is fulltime. The individual study plan for doctoral researchers will be evaluated annually. A trial period applies to new employees.

QUALIFICATIONS

This announcement is open for those who have a Master's Degree AND a supervisor or a potential supervisor from Åbo Akademi University (who has agreed to supervise the applicant) within any of the subjects represented at the faculties. Applicants must receive their Master's degree (or equivalent) on June 30th, 2024, at the latest. 

Please note that there is a separate application process for the admission to a doctoral programme at ÅAU.

The evaluation process begins after the application period has closed. The assessment also includes evaluation by external experts. The decision for employment can be expected preliminarily in the beginning of July. Further information about the implemented time schedule will be communicated to the applicants throughout the recruitment process.
