Description de l'emploi

We are looking for motivated researchers at the beginning of their careers who wish to push the limits in current polymer research.

We offer two PhD positions (4 years) in the Laboratory of Polymer Synthesis and Biomaterials, Department of Physical and Macromolecular Chemistry, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic (https://polymersynthesis.cz). The assignments focus on synthesizing highly functional polymers for applications in heterogeneous catalysis and biomaterials. As the research topics are highly multidisciplinary, the researchers will gain experience in several scientific areas, including modern organic/polymer synthesis, (bio)materials science, and catalysis. Both positions are fully funded, starting from October 2024 or earlier, based on mutual agreement.

PhD topics:

#1: Synthesis of stimuli-responsive poly(2-oxazoline)s as smart nanoparticle coatings

#2: Synthesis of hybrid polymer-MOF nanomaterials for Pickering interfacial catalysis

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, materials science, or similar; obtained within the last two years (2022 or later)
  • Strong background in organic/polymer synthesis and characterizations (Schlenk techniques, NMR, SEC, HPLC, light scattering, etc.)
  • Fluent English (both oral and written), excellent communication skills, strong ability to work in a team

We offer:

  • Participation in cutting-edge polymer chemistry research
  • Opportunity to gain expertise in novel synthetic techniques (controlled photopolymerizations, ionic ring-opening polymerizations, sequence-defined polymers, conjugation reactions) and advanced characterization techniques
  • International collaboration with high-profile laboratories (in Germany, France, Belgium, Japan, U.S.A.)
  • The salary is highly adequate to cover all living expenses in the Czech Republic, with additional scholarships available via the internal grant system.

For questions do not hesitate to contact Ondrej Sedlacek (sedlacek@natur.cuni.cz)

Highly motivated candidates should send their applications via email directly to Ondrej Sedlacek (sedlacek@natur.cuni.cz). The application should contain a cover letter, CV, and copies of relevant diplomas/certificates.

The deadline for applications is by 15th of April 2024.
