YOUR TASKS

  • You will be working at an exciting and innovative medical device development project at Ghent University.
  • Design, construction and testing of prototypes.
  • Mechanical design & strength calculations (manually and/or finite elements analysis).
  • Motor selection, motion simulations and programming motor drives.
  • Experimental validation experiments.
  • Usability studies to translate user input to design requirements.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a Master’s degree in engineering, this could either be a degree in electromechanical engineering, electromechanical engineering technology, biomedical engineering or industrial design.
  • You are a dynamic & motivated person with fast learning capabilities looking for a new and exciting challenge.
  • You have a strong motivation for working at innovative projects and conducting research and development at a high level.
  • You are motivated to apply your engineering skills in the medical field. Experience with medical device development is a strong plus.
  • You have experience with mechanical design and 3D-CAD software (preferably Solidworks). Experience with surface modeling, finite element analysis and CFD analysis is a plus.
  • You have experience with electromechanical drive trains, electric motors and motor control.
  • You have knowledge of rapid manufacturing and plastic product design.
  • Experience with microcontrollers and good programming skills is a plus.
  • You have a basic knowledge of electronics and sensors.
  • You work in a well-structured, thorough way and are able to solve problems independently.
  • You are a team player and have good communication skills.
  • Dutch or English speaker.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • Participation to an exciting project in a motivated team.
  • We offer you a contract of definite duration (100% employment rate) of one year, with possibility of prolongment after positive evaluation.
  • Your contract will start on the 15th of March at the earliest. 
  • Possibility to join the startup which will emerge from this project.
  • If you are motivated to perform a PhD related to the subject, there will be options to combine more in-depth scientific research with your development work and you’ll be offered the opportunity to prepare a PhD proposal.
  • Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate). Click here for more information about our salary scales.
