Description de l'emploi

The Tübingen Faculty of Medicine and University Hospital are part of the University of Excellence Tübingen. They provide medical services at the highest level and cover the entire spectrum of modern medicine, research, teaching and clinical care.

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Tübingen invites applications for a position for the Gene and RNA Therapy Center (GRTC) as a

Full Professor (W3) of Vector Development

available immediately. The successful candidate will be appointed as a civil servant with “Beamten”status provided she or he meets the criteria. Associated with the professorship is the management of a department.

The mission of the GRTC is to develop innovative, personalized, and broadly applicable Gene and RNA therapy approaches that are safe and affordable. Initiating and executing clinical gene and RNA therapy studies shall offer new perspectives to patients with rare diseases and target common diseases. The professorship will support the development of a gene therapy platform, for instance AAV-based, in which the essential process steps for the specific generation of Vectors for gene therapy applications will be developed and standardized.

The possible focal points of the professorship include the design, production and delivery of gene therapy vectors, such as AAV vectors. Intensive cooperation with existing research groups in the field of gene therapy and immunology is a prerequisite.

The overarching aim of the professorship is to strengthen the preclinical development of Vector-based gene therapies and prospectively their implementation in first-in-human trials. This professorship is intended to complement the existing expertise, particularly in the field of neuronal, neurosensory and hematological experimental model systems. There is also a link to translation by means of study-ready cohorts, biomarkers for the detection of target effect and therapy response as well as data on natural progression.

The ideal candidate will have an internationally visible, leading research profile in the field of preclinical vector design and therapy development and is able to provide coherent concepts for the implementation of a comprehensive translational platform. Experience with regulatory aspects of first-in-human applications and successful collaboration with clinical partners in the preparation and conduct of clinical trials is desirable. A leading role in the design of national and international GRTC collaboration initiatives is expected.

Moreover, the ability and willingness to collaborate across disciplines and in particular to organize, lead and participate in interdisciplinary and translational research networks of the Faculty of Medicine and the University are expected. The newly founded Institute of Immunology for instance offers excellent opportunities to develop further synergies.

In the field of teaching, teaching experience to an appropriate extent and commitment are expected, particularly with regard to innovative curricula of the study programs of the Faculty of Medicine, especially in the field of molecular medicine, as well as active participation in the design of lectures, laboratory courses, theses and other teaching formats.

The position has a teaching load of nine hours per week during the semester.

Required qualifications include a PhD or equivalent degree as well as postdoctoral qualifications and teaching experience equivalent to the requirements of a Full Professorship.

The University of Tübingen is committed to equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion. Female scientists, in particular, are explicitly invited to apply, as are applicants from outside Germany.

Applications from equally qualified candidates with disabilities will be given preference.

Please observe the applicable vaccination regulations.
