Your work environment

The headquarters of the AXA Group (GIE AXA) brings together our corporate activities. It provides guidance and support to subsidiaries around the world, to ensure the coordination and monitoring of the Group's global strategy, the application of its standards, the consistency of commercial approaches and the sharing of best practices. The headquarters gathers approximately 1000 employees and is distinguished by its strong international culture (45 nationalities), which makes it a rich and stimulating place to work.

Within the Group, you will join the Group Sustainability Team.

Job purpose

The Group Sustainability Team has the 3 following missions: 

  • Be the Group’s strategic driver on Sustainability, including acting as an influencer with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Oversees implementation and operationalization of the Group’s Sustainability Strategy through a dedicated network of Sustainability Officers;
  • Coordinates the Group’s sustainability-related disclosures to ensure coherence and consistency with market standards and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

The delivery of the Group Sustainability team’s mandate requires active coordination with and support from AXA Group Operations and several other Group functions, including Group Strategy & Investor Relations, GIA, GRM, Group Underwriting, Group Legal, Group Compliance, Group Public Affairs, Group Finance, Group Human Resources, Group Brand, Group Communication & Engagement, Group Media Relations & Reputation, etc.

Dimensions

  • The scope is global, spanning AXA Group and its entities in 50+ countries, both emerging and mature economies;
  • Management of existing ESG Business Development & Outreach, Climate & Biodiversity, ESG Integration teams;
  • In charge of coordinating 4 out of 7 commitments within the AXA for Progress Index, key strategic indicators for AXA: Green Business, Inclusive Protection, S&P Global CSA ranking, Carbon footprint reduction of AXA’s own operations;
  • S&P Global CSA ranking and Carbon footprint reduction of AXA’s own operations are both integrated as performance criteria in the remuneration scheme.

Context & Major challenges

  • Get challenged by/Challenge top management, central functions, entities/Markets (including CEOs and GLN network) and external stakeholders (e.g. investors, clients, partners, NGOs) on the orientations and approach to implement the Sustainability Strategy;
  • Capacity to absorb current trends/upcoming regulations/customer/investor/partner demands and expectations to identify what should be implemented at AXA;
  • Be proactive and creative in an environment of constant change, competitive and complex, notably with a stringent and increasing regulation;
  • Federate, upskill and advise a large group of experts and non-experts at Group level, local level and external stakeholders to adopt a coherent, transversal and forward-looking Sustainability Strategy.

Key accountabilities

Drives AXA’s Sustainability Strategy

  • Contributes toward the development of the overall framework on Sustainability and a forward-looking Group Sustainability Strategy, fostering alignment and/or consistency across activities (investments (as an asset owner and asset manager), underwriting, own operations) through different actions, namely:
    • Steers AXA’s Transition Plan;
    • Contributes to the development of AXA’s Net-Zero strategy and the target-setting process for investments (led by GIA) and underwriting activities (led by Group Underwriting);
    • Sets the net-zero operational efficiency (own operations) target with entities (scope: energy, business travel, car fleet);
    • Coordinates the development/update of sustainability-related policies (e.g. human rights policy, ecosystem conversion & deforestation policy);
    • Coordinates the definition and development of sustainability-related business frameworks (e.g. Green Business with Group Underwriting and Inclusive Protection with AXA Emerging Customers) and initiatives (e.g. AXA’s Women in Insurance);
    • Steers the philanthropic activities of AXA SA: proposes new partnerships/projects and leads the development of existing Group philanthropic partnerships/projects (e.g. Fondation Tara Océan).
  • Supports the definition of the orientations and targets of the Group’s Sustainability Strategy subject to approval by the relevant governing bodies (e.g. Role in Society Steering Committee (RISSC));
  • Supports the development of AXA’s strategic narrative regarding sustainability-related matters with Group Strategy;
  • Represents AXA’s positions and partnerships/initiatives related to sustainability within and outside AXA;
  • Is responsible for engagement with NGOs and key societal stakeholders with the support of Group Media Relations & Reputation;
  • Supports the development of the Group’s Sustainability Strategy for approval to the Management Committee and the Board of Directors (and/or assisting Board Committees), and updates on material sustainability-related issues faced by the Group are provided from time to time, as appropriate.

 

Operationalizes the Sustainability Strategy across the Group through a dedicated network

  • Oversees results of the AXA For Progress Index for KPIs/targets under Group Sustainability ownership;
  • Oversees progress made by entities with regard to the implementation of the Group Sustainability strategy by using:
    • The AXA Entity Sustainability Index (AESI): Group Sustainability defines the overall framework and questions, prepares and issues customized reports for entities following the AESI campaign & results release;
    • The Environmental Reporting (data collected by PBRC) and the Community Investment Survey (data collected by GST) campaigns.
  • Animates the local Sustainability Officers’ community and AXA Hearts in Action (AHIA) Officers’ network;
  • Co-organizes upskilling events and the AXA Week for Good at Group level with Group Communication;
  • Contributes to working groups led by other professional families (e.g. Sustainable Finance Working Group led by Public Affairs) on Sustainability topics where needed;
  • Supports entities with their net-zero target-setting process and action plans for own operations;
  • Supports internal change management and upskilling, incl. through integration of sustainability in processes of professional families and initiatives (e.g. Group Procurement, Digital Sustainability Community (AXA GO), Group Underwriting on the Product Approval Process (PAP));
  • Coordinates the update of the Group Standards (in particular Standard #2 Sustainability) with Group Procurement, GIA, Group Underwriting and GRM on their specific activities and Group Legal (part of the overall process led by the Group Standards Team (GRM));
  • Assists on meetings/calls and responses to queries regarding sustainability matters (e.g. Investor Relations, clients, providers) where needed;
  • Assists the Compliance, Internal Control and Internal Audit Teams regarding Sustainability matters where needed.

Coordinates the Group’s disclosures on Sustainability (regulatory and voluntary)

  • Leads the integration of applicable regulatory disclosure requirements at Group level (e.g. “Article 29”, integrated into the overall process led by GST for the Climate & Biodiversity Report);
  • Leads the implementation of regulatory requirements at entity and product level (e.g. SFDR - overall process led by GST, supported by GIA on Sustainable Investment);
  • Defines the Group’s Human Rights policy and steers the Human Rights Risk Assessment with the contribution of other professional families;
  • Co-leads with PBRC the Sustainability Reporting Working Group, aimed at preparing AXA in the future implementation of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD);
  • Co-leads with the Group Legal Team the update and monitoring of the Group’s Vigilance Plan;
  • Contributes to the integration of applicable regulatory disclosure requirements at Group level (e.g. Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD) (Chapter 4 Sustainability) led by PBRC for the Universal Registration Document);
  • Contributes to define AXA’s position on new and future regulations (led by Public Affairs);
  • Provides support in the development of the Group Human Resources’ approach for the Diversity & Inclusion Program, Sustainability training strategy and creation of training content (e.g. AXA Climate Academy);
  • Coordinates contribution to extra-financial questionnaires, and in particular secures a high score for the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment and AXA’s inclusion in the DJSI.

Votre Profil
  • Experience and technical requirements
    • 10-15 years’ experience, preferably in the financial services sector or in a consulting firm – experience acquired in the public sector or in an NGO will also be considered
    • Recognized sustainability expertise;
    • Prior experience working on sustainability-related recommendations, standards and reporting frameworks (e.g. TCFD, TNFD, SBTi, GHG Protocol, SBTN) would be an advantage;
    • Prior experience working in a multinational context and managing global projects;
    • Bilingual in English and French.

    • Strong team player with capacity to federate within the Group Sustainability team and beyond within other central functions and entities/Markets;
