Description de l'emploi

The Busslinger Laboratory, with its dual affiliation to CeMM, the Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and the Medical University of Vienna, is seeking a highly motivated Lab Technician to join an international team of scientists working on research questions related to the gastrointestinal tract.

Your tasks

You will collaborate with members of the lab and independently take responsibility for sub-targets of their projects. Depending on the project, you will be trained in methods such as:

  • Establishment of organoid lines from fresh tissue samples
  • Generation of genetically modified organoid lines using CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing tools or lentiviral transfection (e.g. reporter and knockout lines)
  • Bacterial infection experiments
  • Support for CRISPR or chemical compound screens
  • Various sequencing technologies

You will assist our lab manager with his tasks:

  • Lab organization
  • Managing purchases for the research group

Your profile

The successful candidate will have the following relevant qualifications:

  • Degree in Life Sciences (Bachelor, Master or equivalent)
  • Eager to join a young, up-and-coming team
  • Highly motivated and committed with a proactive attitude
  • High accuracy
  • Reliability
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

The following aspects are considered a plus:

  • Previous experience in cell culture techniques (ideally organoids)
  • Expertise in cellular and molecular techniques (e.g. cloning, PCR, DNA and RNA isolation)
  • Knowledge of gastrointestinal epithelial biology

The Busslinger Lab

Our research interest is in the epithelial biology of the human gastrointestinal tract, with a particular focus on the stomach and colon. We aim to improve our understanding of how individual cell types are generated, what their molecular functions are, how they are regulated and how they interact with nutrients, microbiota and other environmental factors. We are also interested in deciphering what happens during the development of inflammatory diseases and how specific cell types contribute to these processes. To answer all these questions, we analyze fresh human material, e.g. by single-cell RNA sequencing experiments, and establish human organoid cultures, which are subsequently functionally studied using genome editing and high-throughput sequencing approaches such as RNA and ATAC sequencing. The Busslinger lab is currently a small team of two PhD students and a lab manager. The group is physically located at the Medical University of Vienna in the General Hospital of Vienna (AKH), just across the street from CeMM, a 2-minute walk away. The adjunct affiliation of the group to CeMM provides a unique opportunity to combine translational research with cutting-edge research methods. www.busslingerlab.com
