KU Leuven is a research-intensive, internationally oriented university that conducts both fundamental and applied scientific research. It has a strong inter- and multidisciplinary focus and strives for international excellence. To this end, the Faculty and the Research Unit actively collaborate with research partners in Belgium and abroad.
The Faculty of Law and Criminology of the Humanities and Social Sciences Group has a vacancy at KU Leuven Kulak in Kortrijk for a part-time temporary position (10%) as assistant professor (ZAP) in the domain of "Law and Artificial Intelligence". The position is for 5 years and involves scientific research, teaching at an academic level and additional tasks of an academic nature, including service tasks.
The Faculty of Law and Criminology has a strong national and international reputation for teaching, research and service. It pursues leadership in each of these areas at the national, European and international levels. In doing so, the Faculty wishes to distinguish itself through the academic nature of its work and its awareness of the major social role of that field. The technicality of the legal domain is therefore to be transcended through originality in research, attention to values, awareness of the interaction of legal rules in a multi-layered legal order, intra- and interdisciplinarity.
The Faculty of Law and Criminology at KU Leuven Kulak is a dynamic unit that provides law education for the first and second year bachelor students. The scientific research is mainly focused on private and economic law. The team consists of 6 professors and about 10 full-time and a number of part-time staff working in Kortrijk.
KU Leuven's campus in Kortrijk lends itself ideally to interdisciplinary research and teaching. This interdisciplinary research is centred on two central themes: sustainability and Artificial Intelligence. The campus also co-organises the interdisciplinary Master of Artificial Intelligence in Business and Industry. Research on this campus is always done in close cooperation with the involved research units in Leuven and with the relevant experts of the other faculties on the same campus.
