Location: Scottish Association for Marine Science, Oban
Contract Type: Fixed Term (24 months)
Working Pattern:  Full Time (37 hrs per week, Monday to Friday)
Salary range:  £29,915.19 - £33,647.14 per annum.

The Role

The role will involve (i) identifying the key gaps in global policies and legislation that need to be addressed to support the protection and enhancement of climate resilience and biodiversity in wild seaweed populations, (ii) understanding the knowledge, attitude and practices of indigenous peoples and local communities (IPLCs), primarily in Malaysia, in terms of their current management and conservation practices for wild seaweed populations, (iii) devising new innovative seaweed cultivation/management practices that can enhancing biodiversity in conjunction with researchers in Malaysia and (iv) assessing how scalable/replicable, socially acceptable and economically viable these new management practices could be in developing countries in SE Asia.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate must have a PhD in an agri- or marine plant/seaweed research area or related field and have published their work in high impact scientific journals. Some experience in policy analysis would be helpful. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and experience in working with researchers from other cultures and willing to attend some project international meetings (Malaysia, Canada and France) and for a short research trip (~3 weeks) to Malaysia is essential.
