Description de l'emploi

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) – The Research University in the Helmholtz Association creates and imparts knowledge for the society and the environment. It is our goal to make significant contributions to mastering the global challenges of mankind in the fields of energy, mobility, and information. For this, about 9.800 employees of KIT cooperate in a broad range of disciplines in research, academic education, and innovation.

The Institute for Astroparticle Physics (IAP) offers from July 1st, 2024, limited to two years, a

Postdoctoral position in experimental astro-particle physics (KATRIN)

We’re seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) to contribute their expertise to our neutrino physics research team at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). If you have a background in particle or astroparticle physics and a passion for hardware – especially detector technologies –, we invite you to be a key member in our development team for the Karlsruhe Tritium Neutrino experiment (KATRIN). The collaboration is currently preparing a hardware upgrade of the detector system to expand both energy range and rate capacity, and to widen the physics reach (e.g. to the search for sterile keV neutrinos).

Your role:

  • Coordinate the integration of a novel detector system based on multi-pixel silicon drift diode technology into the KATRIN beamline, in close cooperation with groups from TU Munich and Politecnico di Milano.
  • Take a leading role in the characterization of the detector system in a local test stand prior to its installation in the beamline.
  • Mentor and guide bachelor and master students working on the detector upgrade.

Personal qualification

  • A university degree in physics and a completed doctorate are prerequisites.
  • Proven laboratory experience in working with detector technologies in clean environments.
  • Experience in working with silicon-based detectors and ultra-high-vacuum systems are regarded as assets.
  • Basic skills in data analysis for benchmarking detector performance and deriving systematic limitations.
  • A team player with the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team with members from the workshops, engineering and management.

Become a member of staff of the only German University of Excellence that conducts large-scale research on the national level. Work under excellent working conditions in an international environment and be active in research and academic education for our future. Benefit from specific training when starting your job and from a wide range of further qualification offers. Use our flexible working time models (flexitime, work from home), our sports and leisure offers, as well as our child and holiday care services. We also pay a share of EUR 25/month in the Job Ticket Baden-Württemberg. Enjoy a large variety of dishes, snacks, and beverages at our canteens.

We prefer to balance the number of employees (f/m/d). Therefore we kindly ask female applicants to apply for this job.

Recognized severely disabled persons will be preferred if they are equally qualified.

Please apply online until April 15th, 2024 using the vacancy number 1112/2024 to Ms Jana Kehrer, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Human Resources, Kaiserstr. 12, 76131 Karlsruhe, Germany. Please compile a cover letter, curriculum vitae, university degree and PhD academic certificates (please indicate grading system if not evident) and apply. Also, please arrange for two reference letters to be included in the application or sent separately to markus.steidl@kit.edu.

For further information, please contact Dr. Markus Steidl, email: markus.steidl@kit.edu.

Processing of your personal data by Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) will be subject to this Privacy Policy.
