Description de l'emploi

The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is an interdisciplinary research centre of the University of Luxembourg. We conduct fundamental and translational research in the field of Systems Biology and Biomedicine – in the lab, in the clinic and in silico – with a focus on neurodegenerative processes. The LCSB recruits talented scientists from various disciplines: computer scientists, mathematicians, biologists, chemists, engineers, physicists, and clinicians from more than 50 countries currently work at the LCSB. We excel because we are truly interdisciplinary and together we contribute to science and society.

The successful candidate will join theMolecular & Functional Neurobiology group, led by Prof. Anne Grünewald, which studies the genetic and non-genetic causes of neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation in Parkinson’s disease (PD). The group explores the contribution of intra- and intercellular mitochondrial signaling to these processes. Specifically, the R&D Specialist will support a project that investigates the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7nAChR) signaling in PD. For more information, please visit our website.

Your Role...

You will be responsible for the generation of the neuronal models to be used, which entails iPSC culture maintenance and differentiation into dopaminergic neurons. Furthermore, you will conduct lentiviral transductions to modulate the levels of key target proteins and will participate in subsequent functional and molecular studies.

To do so, you will have the following tasks and accountabilities:

  • Cell culture activities (iPSC maintenance and differentiation into dopaminergic neurons)
  • Lentiviral transductions to modulate the expression of key targets involved in α7nAChR signaling
  • Standard molecular biology (Bradford, ELISA, Western blotting) and mitochondrial function (Seahorse technology, colorimetric dyes, enzyme kinetics with spectrophotometry etc.) assays
  • Immunocytochemistry and high-content imaging analysis
  • Real-time PCR, sequencing, cloning of plasmids and viral constructs
  • Contribution to general laboratory organisation (ordering, overseeing of stocks, storage, preparation of solutions etc.)

What we expect from you…

  • Master’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, or another similar life science-related discipline
  • Strong background in cell and molecular biology
  • Experience in cell culture, ideally with iPSC-derived cellular models, and neuronal differentiations
  • Experience in microscopy and automated image analysis
  • Fluency in R language for statistical analysis and data plotting will be considered an important asset
  • Keen interest in investigating the Molecular basis of neurodegenerative and inflammatory diseases
  • Strong motivation to contribute specific parts to larger projects
  • Excellent organizational and management skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Fluency in oral and written English is essential

Here’s what awaits you at the LCSB...

  • Excellent work environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, laboratory and administrative support
  • Truly connected. We work together with hospitals and research institutes on a national and international level as well as industrial partners. Connection between science and society is very important to us. From our school lab – the Scienteens Lab – to the different outreach activities and collaborative partnerships with patient associations, we love to listen to society’s needs and share our passion for science
  • Be part of a multicultural team. At the LCSB we have more than 50 nationalities. Throughout the year, we organise team-building events, networking activities and more
