Position: Dielectric Fluids Research Analyst (Senior Research Associate)

Based at: The Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester, UK

The role:

An exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in organic chemistry and an interest in contributing to the transition of power systems. You will engage in advanced chemical synthesis, as well as physical, chemical and electrical testing to develop eco-friendly solutions for power transformers.

Qualifications we require:

With or about to obtain a PhD degree in a relevant subject related to organic chemistry.

Application requirements:

Skills/Experience:

  • Proficiency in synthesizing, purifying, and characterizing organic molecules in a laboratory setting.
  • Skilled in using relevant laboratory equipment and techniques, including HPLC, GC, NMR, and chemical databases.
  • Familiarity with electrical testing apparatus for assessing dielectric fluids is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work safely in a hazardous environment, adhering to safety policies.

About the Project:

This 6-month pilot project is a unique opportunity to be part of an innovative team focused on developing Natural Ester-based dielectric fluids for power transformers. The project aims to explore and refine both traditional and novel synthesis methodologies, with a focus on enhancing the performance and sustainability of these fluids. Rigorous testing and benchmarking exercises will be conducted to assess their efficacy. Upon successful completion of this pilot phase, there is potential for a long-term contract, offering the opportunity to continue contributing to this ground-breaking research and development in the field of sustainable energy solutions.
