YOUR TASKS

The development of a service platform of characterized patient-derived preclinical cancer models to evaluate the effect of novel therapeutic strategies in an in vivo context. The platform is part of a multidisciplinary research consortium within the 'Cancer Research Institute Ghent' (CRIG) (crig.ugent.be) with national and international collaborations.

  • responsible for the development and coordination of the novel service research platform and act as a first point of contact
  • responsible for the optimization of standard operating procedures (SOP) for the generation and characterization of patient-derived preclinical cancer models.
  • responsible for the administration and ethical approval of the use of patient material and animal models for this preclinical research.
  • responsible for monitoring experimental animals according to the guidelines of the ethics committee
  • organize the biobanking of the biological material in collaboration with UZ Gent biobank.
  • provide technical support for experiments in which the models are used for the evaluation of new therapeutic strategies
  • process data and keep it up to date. You analyze and interpret the results and provide periodic feedback.
  • build an internal network to efficiently obtain and process correct information in order to carry out your assignments as best as possible
  • propose solutions and actively participate in the development of procedures to ensure smooth operation
  • supervision and management of a team of technicians.
  • contribute to a positive, pleasant and productive working environment.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • hold a PhD by dissertation in life sciences
  • are a talented, enthusiastic and motivated researcher, who has a sense of high professional standards.
  • have a proven track record of successful cancer research, including high-ranking (co)first-author publication(s).
  • Excellent written and oral English skills are required, as evidenced by previous peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
  • have strong management skills and know how to apply the principles of project management.
  • have knowledge and experience with biobanking and data management.
  • experience with preclinical animal models, preferably patient-derived cancer models, is a requirement and you are in possession of a Felasa C certificate for working with laboratory animals.
  • are flexible and can work both autonomously and in a team.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a contract of unlimited duration.
  • Your contract will start on 1/07/2024 at the earliest.
