AdresseThe Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Turku is recruiting a Postdoctoral researcher to work in the field of Discrete Mathematics for the period from June 1st 2024 to December 31st 2026.
Postdoctoral researcher will work in the research project called Limits of advanced polymer-based memory systems“. The Academy of Finland funds the project. The project focuses on questions stemming from retrieving information from advance polymer-based memories. The Postdoctoral researcher will participate in in the research on coding theoretical and combinatorial methods which correct various types of errors that occur in the reading process of the information.
It is expected the Postdoctoral researcher to actively publish scientific research in the research group. The job also contains teaching and other duties appointed by the department.
Who we are looking for
According to the rules of the University of Turku, a person selected for the post of Postdoctoral Researcher is required to have a doctoral degree and the ability to do independent scientific work as well as having the teaching skills required for the position. The position requires an active working approach, mastery of the English language, diligence and cooperation ability. The most important selection criteria are the scientific merits of the candidate. Preference will be given to those candidates whose research interests lie in in both coding theory and combinatorics. The candidate must have a strong publication record to show the ability to do international research of high level.

Salary and trial period
The salary will be based on levels 4-6 of the demands level chart for teaching and research staff in the salary system applied at Finnish universities, according to which the base salary for the position is 2775,28 – 3747,44 euros per month. In addition, a performance-based salary component of up to 50 % will be paid. The salary will in the beginning of the employment be approximately 3 400 –3 700 €/month.
The position includes a six (6) month trial period.

In the Department of Mathematics and Statistics the main research areas in mathematics and applied mathematics include Discrete Mathematics, theoretical computer science, number theory, analysis, optimization, mathematical modelling and insurance mathematics.
