The Research Unit (RU) Roman Law and Legal History is a small but vibrant and internationally oriented center for teaching and research in various field of Roman Law and general Legal History. Its research focuses on the period since 1450. Members of the center teach the mandatory subjects History of Public Law, Roman Law as well as History of Private Law at the Leuven, Brussels and Kortrijk campuses in the LLB program. At the master level, they teach courses in general and European Legal History as well as history of international law. The latter subject forms one of the three particular fields of interest of the center, next to the intellectual history of the civil law tradition (Roman as well as canon law) and the history of economic and financial law.

Profile
- Holder of a Ph.D. in Law (specialisation: Legal History), or of a master's degree in Law with demonstrable expertise and experience in legal historical research relevant to the project;
- Suitable and demonstrable knowledge of Latin (e.g. through earlier publications on Latin sources) and an excellent active and passive knowledge of English;
- Familiarity with the context of the old Leuven university is a plus.
