The Research Council of Finland funded INVEST Research Flagship & Research Centre invites applications for one Doctoral Researcher/Project Researcher in the project “DIGIPARENT: Implementation, personalization and genetics of digitally assisted parent training intervention to improve child mental health services” for a fixed-term position until 31 October 2026. The start of employment is negotiable.

The Research Council of Finland funded research flagship Inequalities, Interventions, and New Welfare State (INVEST) is a joint Research Centre that operates under the Faculties of Medicine and Social Sciences at the University of Turku (UTU) and the Welfare State Research and Reform unit at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). The Faculty of Medicine is represented in INVEST by the Research Centre for Child Psychiatry.

The Research Centre for Child Psychiatry is a nationally leading institution in research on digital mental health interventions for children, young people and families. Since its establishment in 2009, the Research Centre has developed, evaluated and implemented several digitalised, targeted and universal interventions aimed at teaching skills that maintain and strengthen mental health.

The target groups of our interventions are, among others, parents of under school-aged children, parents in crisis situations, early childhood professionals, children in primary school, children in secondary school, draftees, students in higher education and pregnant women. The interventions are digital or digitally assisted and their development is based on new technology, such as Artificial Intelligence or Virtual Reality.

In addition to researchers and teachers, the centre employs a competent administrative team including Project and Research Coordinators. Who we are looking for

Job description

The appointed researcher will be joining the DIGIPARENT project, which explores the use of digitally assisted parent training interventions in the prevention and treatment of disruptive behaviour disorders. The project is divided into four Work Packages (WPs), which are focused on

1) long-term outcomes of digitally assisted parent training,  
2) genetic and epigenetic variants associated with childhood disruptive behaviour and the epigenetic response to childhood psychosocial interventions,  
3) personalisation by artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms, and  
4) functionality as part of the health service system.  
The project is funded by European Research Council (ERC). In addition, the position includes doing your own dissertation research and completing courses related to doctoral studies.

Who we are looking for

According to the University of Turku rules of procedure, a person selected for the post of doctoral researcher is required to have a study right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Turku. In addition, when acquiring their degree or otherwise, they are required to have demonstrated the ability to undertake postgraduate studies and the capacity to complete a doctoral degree in accordance with the research plan. In this position, the study right of the Doctoral Researcher is required to be within the DPInvest or Doctoral Programme of Clinical Research (DPCR). If the selected applicant does not have a right to pursue a doctoral degree through studies at the University of Turku at the time of applying, they will be first hired as a Project Researcher. The selected candidate should then apply for the right to pursue a doctoral degree in the Fall 2024 call for applications for a right to study. Read more on how to apply.

We expect you to have a Master’s Degree in a relevant field and to be able to conduct independent research work and have knowledge of Epidemiological Research methods. Experience in RCT and register-based studies is considered an advantage. The position requires good interaction and communication skills in English, as well as good IT capabilities.


Benefits

 

Salary and probationary period

The salary is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. The salary of a Doctoral/Project Researcher is at levels 2–3, and the job-specific salary element is 2225,83- 2444,98 euros per month. The personal salary element (up to 50 %) for a new employee is normally 6–19 % of the job-specific salary element. A probationary period of 6 months is applied to the position.
