Description de l'emploi

The University of Tartu is the biggest and oldest centre of academic life in Estonia – we have over 3,000 employees and 14,000 students. The unique intellectual atmosphere and fine living and working environment that characterise Tartu have attracted prominent scientists and experts for almost 400 years. One of the main tasks of the University of Tartu is to support the development of a science-based society. This requires strong research, high-quality higher education and effective collaboration with companies and the public sector.

The University of Tartu is the leading university in the Baltics in the field of Information Technology and is one of the 250 best universities in the world in the field of Computer Science. The Institute of Computer Science has grown rapidly with almost 300 staff, 1,400 students and more than 90 doctoral students. The Institute is in the Delta Centre in Tartu, which offers a truly modern environment for studying, researching, and creating new solutions in cooperation with companies and students. The Institute has six research themes: Data Science, Programming Languages and Systems, Security and Theoretical Computer Science, Software Engineering and Information Systems, Distributed Systems, and Natural Language Processing. At the Institute of Computer Science, we prioritise a diverse range of collaboration formats which allows companies to start cooperating with the university in a number of ways.

The University is now seeking to appoint a Professor of Artificial Intelligence, who will sit in the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Institute of Computer Science. This professor will coordinate research and teaching in the field of Artificial Intelligence and develop industrial collaborations in this area. Reporting to the Chair of the Data Science research theme, the Professor will develop and lead an exciting program of research and innovation projects aligned with the vision and mission of the Institute.

The successful candidate will have a track-record of research publications in the field of Artificial Intelligence. The ideal candidate will also have experience in obtaining research funding and collaborating with industry. Whilst all areas of Artificial Intelligence research are of interest, theoretical and foundational research into Artificial Intelligence is of particular interest. Candidates can be established senior professors or rising stars in their relevant fields.
