Description de l'emploi

Luke monitors the state of Finland's most important migratory fish stocks and implements research projects that aim to increase the vitality of migratory fish stocks. We are now looking for an enthusiastic new expert for these tasks.

The position includes versatile research and expert work in research and monitoring of migratoryfish stocks in Finland. Almost all migratory fish stocks in our country have suffered from changes in water quality, damming and clearance of rivers or other environmental changes. A key part of the researcher's work is research related to the restoration of the migratory connection of water bodies and catchment areas, as well as other restoration and renovation work.

The researcher's tasks include planning and implementation of research projects as well as project manager duties, publishing research results in peer-reviewed series, and applying for research funding from various financial instruments.
An essential part of the task is networking and cooperation with international and national cooperation bodies and sharing information and having a dialogue with different stakeholders.

The person selected for the position will work as part of the Migratory Fish and Regulated Rivers group of about 30 employees at the Natural Resources Institute's Oulu location. Together with the other personnel of the group, he promotes the well-being of Finland's migratory fish stocks and their sustainable utilization.

The duration of the assignment is 3 years.

Our expectations of the applicant

The position requires a doctoral degree or at least a nearly completed doctoral degree in fisheries, biology, ecology, or another applicable field. Successful handling of the tasks requires previous experience in research related to aquatic ecosystems and especially migratory fish. Evidence of scientific publishing in peer-reviewed series and cooperation with the international scientific community is an advantage for the applicant.

The stakeholder cooperation included in the task requires good cooperation skills. It is an advantage for the applicant to have previous experience in research related to migratory fish in the boreal region. The position also requires good oral and written knowledge of the English language. Experience in the duties of a project manager and evidence of successful planning and implementation of research projects are an advantage for the applicant.

The position requires at least basics of processing large data using statistical software packages (R or similar). A driver's license is required (own car is not required).

BenefitsOur mobile work model allows you to work in Finland in the location most appropriate for your work. In addition, we provide flexible hours, and as your employment with us continues, long vacations. We offer lunch benefits, as well as sports, culture or commuting support.
For international recruits, we provide a relocation package, which includes concrete support for coming to Finland and Luke (eg. residence permit, various registration procedures, banking and taxation, finding an apartment).

Clarifications

The person selected for the position might need to undergo standard security clearance vetting with the applicant’s consent (Security Clearance Act 726/2014). More detailed information on the procedure and the subject's rights is available at www.supo.fi.
