Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke), group of Ecosystems and Modelling, seeks a researcher to work in the field of Climate change impacts and adaptation in northern agriculture.
We invite applications for a 3-year researcher position (Postdoctoral or postgraduate level) in Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) in the group of Ecosystems and modelling to work in the field of Climate change impacts and adaptation in northern agriculture. The successful candidate will join our various multidisciplinary research projects and will be integrated in our national and international collaboration networks. The researcher will conduct innovative research leading to scientific achievements that are aligned with Luke’s strategies.
The researcher will advance the development of agroecosystem modelling and novel model-data fusion with an aim to enhance the development of sustainable and climate-resilient northern farming systems. The work involves significant collaboration with the other research team members and project collaborators.
Our expectations of the applicant
The applicant should have a PhD or MSc degree in agronomy, agro-meteorology, atmospheric sciences, environmental engineering, environmental sciences, systems modelling, mathematics or in a related discipline. Candidates with prior experience in process-based ecosystem modelling will be given a priority. Strong programming skills (e.g., Python or R) are expected and experience in data science, machine learning or remote sensing in the agricultural context are valued. Proficiency in written and oral English is a necessity in our international research team and with our collaborative network. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills and motivation to work in multidisciplinary, regionally dispersed research teams. She/he has a publication record that corresponds with his/her career stage. Experience in acquiring competitive research funding is regarded as an asset.
