The Faculty of Law at Stellenbosch University (SU) has two vacancies in the Department of Mercantile Law. The main responsibility of the incumbent will be to contribute to excellence in the Faculty of Law. The incumbent will lecture in one or more of the following specialised areas: Mercantile Law, International Trade Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Law and Technology, but may also be required to fulfil further teaching responsibilities within the Department and Faculty, taking into account relevant factors. The incumbent will furthermore conduct research which broadly focuses on such specialised areas, and provide postgraduate supervision in such specialised areas of law. The incumbent must also contribute to the administrative functioning of the Faculty, and perform other duties as assigned by the Faculty.
The Department of Mercantile Law is responsible for teaching several of the core modules in a number of specialised LLM programmes, such as in International Trade Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Law and Technology, and service courses for other faculties. Accordingly, the Department is looking to strengthen its expertise in these areas. The Department also has a strong focus on research within these fields, as well as in other areas of MercantileLaw.

Die Fakulteit Regsgeleerdheid by die Universiteit Stellenbosch (US) het tans twee vakatures in die Departement Handelsreg. As hoofverantwoordelikheid sal die posbekleër 'n bydrae moet maak tot uitnemendheid in die Fakulteit Regsgeleerdheid. Die posbekleër sal hoofsaaklik in die vakgebiede van Handelsreg, Internasionale Handelsreg, Alternatiewe Geskilbeslegting, en Reg en Tegnologie doseer, maar sal ook verdere onderrigverpligtinge binne die Departement of Fakulteit moet opneem, inagenome toepaslike faktore. Die posbekleër sal voorts navorsing moet doen wat breedweg op die gespesialiseerde vakgebiede fokus, en nagraadse begeleiding verskaf in daardie gespesialiseerde gebiede van die reg. Die posbekleër sal ook moet bydra tot die administratiewe funksionering van die Fakulteit, asook ander take verrig soos deur die Fakulteit toegewys.
Die Departement Handelsreg is verantwoordelik vir die onderrig van verskeie van die kern-modules in LLM-programme, soos Internasionale Handelsreg, Alternatiewe Geskilbeslegting en Reg en Tegnologie en diensmodules vir ander fakulteite. Dienooreenkomstig wil die Departement sy kundigheid op die vakgebiede versterk. Die Departement het ook 'n sterk fokus op navorsing binne hierdie vakgebiede asook in ander handelsreg-areas.
Duties/Pligte
- Lecturing modules in one or more of the specialised LLM programmes in International Trade Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Law and Technology, as well as in other law modules;
- Lecturing in the undergraduate law programmes and service modules;
- Actively researching, writing and publishing in the assigned field(s) of law;
- Postgraduate supervision;
- Contributing to the administrative functioning of the Faculty;
- Performing such other duties as assigned by the Faculty.
- Onderrig in een of meer van die gespesialiseerde LLM-programme in Internasionale Handelsreg, Alternatiewe Geskilbeslegting, en Reg en Tegnologie, sowel as ander regsmodules;
- Onderrig in die voorgraadse regsprogramme en diensmodules;
- Aktiewe navorsing, skryf en publikasie in die toegewyse regsvakgebied(e);

- Uitvoering van ander take soos deur die Fakulteit toegewys.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
- LLM with a relevant undergraduate degree in law (for appointment as Lecturer);
- LLD or an appropriate PhD (for appointment as Senior Lecturer). In the case of an applicant from practice who does not hold a full-time academic appointment, reputation in legal practice and professional legal experience may be considered in the absence of an LLD/PhD;
- Publications (for appointment as Senior Lecturer);
- Experience in postgraduate mentorship and supervision (for appointment as Senior Lecturer);
- Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching (for appointment as Senior Lecturer).
- LLM met 'n toepaslike voorgraadse regsgraad (vir aanstelling as Lektor);
- 'n LLD of 'n toepaslike PhD (vir aanstelling as Senior Lektor). In die geval van 'n aansoeker vanuit die praktyk wat nie 'n voltydse akademiese posisie beklee nie, en ook nie oor 'n LLD/PhD beskik nie, kan die aansoeker se reputasie in die praktyk en professionele ervaring in ag geneem word;
- Publikasies (vir aanstelling as Senior Lektor);
- Ervaring van nagraadse mentorskap en studieleiding (vir aanstelling as Senior Lektor);
- Ervaring van voorgraadse en nagraadse onderrig (vir aanstelling as Senior Lektor).
